FAQ & Intake Form

What are the Benefits of Massage?

Massage is a non-invasive complimentary approach to health and medical care and wellness, and has been proven to help with:

  • stress related disorders
  • depression
  • headaches
  • low back pain
  • muscle pain
  • sciatica
  • cardiovascular health
  • relaxation and sleeping
  • reducing pressure on joints
  • injury rehabilitation
  • detoxifying

More and more massage is becoming accepted as a beneficial component to other health care practices and by comparison is far more affordable than many other medical costs, while excelling at preventing disease. And massage therapy and bodywork does wonders for improving health, athletic performance and longevity while preventing injuries. Massage therapy given correctly even has effects very similar to those of steroids without the negative side effects. Such as reduced recovery time, reduced fatigue, improved muscle tone and strength and development of weak unused muscles.

Please note:

If you have a condition you feel may be helped by massage, please ask your primary care doctor for their advice. With a written prescription for massage, you may use your FSA or HSA program to pay for the service, or submit a claim to your insurance company directly to pay for the necessary massage services.

What Should I Expect on My First Visit?

Short health interview

At your first visit we’ll take about 5 minutes discussing your needs for the massage and health history, to prevent injury and know how massage therapy can best help you.

Disrobing

We’ll then leave the room and let you disrobe to your comfort level and make yourself comfortable on the table we have dressed with sheets and a towel. About half of people remove all clothing and the other half leave on briefs/panties. Tip: If you prefer the full hip work made possible being nude and still want the comfort of clothing, a bikini bottom or the like works great.

Will it Hurt?

During the massage the pressure may feel achy or painful because of the level of tension and or chronic injury of the tissues. The pain ought to be what we call, “hurt-so-good” pain and not, feel like the pressure is damaging tissue or too painful to tolerate. So always communicate as much as you like.

Communication with the Therapist

Especially on your first visit, it’s especially important to communicate your needs for pressure adjustment, draping and table configuration, music, lighting, aromatherapy, or anything you need to be the most comfortable with your therapist. Pressure needs can change dramatically from one area to the next, and what is comfortable for one person may not be comfortable for another. So always communicate any time you need or want to.

Where Will I Be Touched?

Even though there is an intake form (below) with a chart and several questions about injuries and where you do and do not want to be touched, please always communicate with the masseuse about where you do and do not want to be touched and always feel free to readjust the drape and or your body position as much as necessary to be comfortable.

The primary goal of therapeutic massage is to restore mobility and circulation on essential points on the body in order for there to be recovery and development; and the majority of those points are on or near what about 30% of people consider sensitive areas; like the hams, glutes, quads and pec’s. Even though these areas are very commonly worked in professional massage – many people who have had many massages have never had these areas actually worked; so working these areas can possibly feel invasive, which is why it’s important to always communicate with your therapist. Being comfortable getting where you do and don’t want worked is essential to getting the most of your massage experience.

Do the Breasts Get Massaged?

The honest answer is kind of, sort of, maybe. There is nothing shameful, or illegal about massaging the breasts and it is actually vital to health and wellness to get them massaged (as much as time allows, which isn’t much time). The table alone face down/prone will massage and crush the breast that honestly and scientifically requires it/them to need therapeutic massage if the client and therapist agree. I’ve learned some massage establishments are teaching people that it’s wrong and therefore shameful to massage the glutes or breasts; while not massaging or in the least addressing those areas can be fatal to clients in regard to heart and cardiovascular disease and breast cancer aside from common pain and dysfunctions that can’t be professionally addressed without working these areas.

Technically the breast tissue is anything on a female below the clavicle/collar bone all the way to the edge of the arm pit – which is exactly the area we need, to work in order to alleviate common pain and dysfunctions in the neck and shoulders. So any kind of massage to the pecs is technically massaging breast tissue, and to ensure the best results ‘we’ recommend deciding whether or not you want breast massaged and if not, to research and use effective stretches for the pec’s, because it is literally vital to make sure the pec’s and serratus anterior muscles are mobilized (heart attack, breast cancer, extreme pain and dysfunctions).

It’s important to note that Daniel has collegiate training that was designed by one of the world foremost universities (UCMT via UofU) and has received continuing education multiple times regarding the breast and breast pathologies and treatments (Medical CEU, Myofascial CEU, AMTA CEU’s). Aside from that some of the worlds foremost female professional athletes and professionals have educated Daniel and been testaments to the effectiveness. I’ve worked many times with clients to recover from cancer and augmentation surgeries, as well as other pathologies that those areas for very legitimate purposes. So yes, breast massage is available (was once a featured massage!) if you and your massage therapist choose to.

In contemporary America we have a very wide range of preferences and beliefs and we respect the unique needs and boundaries of every client, so please always communicate with your therapist.

Are There Any Side-Effects of Massage?

Massage therapy releases metabolic byproduct aka toxins into the tissues that can make us slightly drunk or even nauseous. Drinking plenty of water and replenishing electrolytes after your massage will help flush toxins from your system and help you rejuvenate. Replacing electrolytes after flushing your system with fluids is a great idea. They can naturally be found in fresh oranges, spinach, coconut water and sea salt.

How Long Will it Take to Fix Me?

That really depends on how long you’ve been dealing with a health project and how severe that or those projects are. Nearly everyone feels far better their first session, though depending on how much activity and stress your body has and does endure; it can take between three and more than ten sessions to relieve aggravated muscle networks and bring your body into harmonic alignment.

How Does Your Membership & Package Rates Work?

You can schedule online and select the service you’d like the membership or package rate with and then select the membership or set option after you’ve first selected the type of massage. You can also call or text 813-863-4895 or email info@theBodyZen.com and ‘well’ get back to you asap!

How Do Your Gift Cards Work?

My current process is emailing you a custom gift card with the code that’s generated when a massage or set of massages is purchased online. You can purchase online if you wish, then let me know the code you get on your receipt by phone or email and then I’ll email you your custom card you can then print and gift.

How Many People Can Visit at Once?

I currently, only have one room with one table. So as of now, people have to be seen back to back instead of at the same time. Although I’m planning on getting a second room that I can put two tables in for couples massages as soon as I can staff at least one new staff member.

Meet the Team!

Daniel Dunn

Daniel graduated from both the Professional & Master Bodyworker Programs at the internationally recognized Utah College of Massage Therapy, in ’06 and then again ’13 with academic achievement honors.

Three months after graduating the Master Program while working for two local massage businesses, I accepted a position with the luxurious Eau Spa, and was honored to be part of the staff that helped them earn their Forbes 5 star rating to be a five star AAA five diamond resort. After being offered yet another prestigious position by another spa, I declined them both and resigned (what!? trust me, I’ve learned not to regret:) to move to Tampa to finish, getting my To-Shin Do (Ninjutsu) Black belt which I’ve had for five years now!.

I’ve operated Body Zen for 4 1/2 years already! And while-so have delt with extreme renting issues (you’re not alone!) while becoming a personal trainer, producing a stretching video (almost here!) and a KidnapDefense.com website and I have a dog! 🙂

After the video is produced and life is more back to normal I will again hire another if not two more female therapists! Not that anyone could replace Tori, who is now operating her own practice in St. Pete! Check her out here!

The Intake Form preview, is no longer working after an update changed the editing and layout so features like that no longer work-that also crashed the FAQ page for a bit- though please download the Intake Form above. Thanks!
